  • Prepare for harvesting - get cellar equipment in order and re-assess the grading system.

  • Order cover crop seed, fertiliser, lime and post-harvest applications.
2. In the vineyard

  • Irrigate according to vines' needs but always take wine objectives and expected harvest date into account when decisions about irrigation are taken.
Canopy management:

Disease and pest control:
  • Monitor vineyards continuously for fungal diseases and evaluate effectiveness of spraying programme. Persist with the necessary preventive programmes where necessary, but keep to withholding periods.
Vine development:
  • Remember to pay attention to young vine development.
Sampling and harvest:
  • Get an early headstart with berry sampling to monitor ripeness and ensure that early cultivars are harvested at optimum ripeness in accordance with the wine objective.
3. Financial

Contact your agricultural economist for information about:

  • Purchase of soil or farm evaluation.
