1. Planning

  • Determine and plan spring fertilisation requirements and applications.
  • Make arrangements with nursery to collect vines.
2. In the vineyard

Prune

  • Follow pruning programme and monitor implementation of pruning practices.
Weed control
  • Berm and weed rows should receive attention.
Plantings
  • Planting of new vineyards - familiarise yourself with the treatment of vines before planting, method of making plant holes and the planting action.
Trellis systems
  • Repair and improve trellis systems.
Disease and pest control
  • Monitor and control snail activity.
  • Treat pruning wounds for fungal infections ("eutypa").
3. Financial

Contact your agricultural economist for information about:

  • Purchase of soil or farm evaluation.
  • Viability studies and breakeven analyses.
  • Establishment costs, budgets and cash flow statements.
Compare, on a monthly basis, the budgeted situation with actual expenses as well as with the corresponding month and make adjustments if required.
