VinPro Consultant Profile:
Pierre Snyman
Pierre Snyman must have wine
coursing through his veins. With an uncle who is a winemaker and a
grandfather who owns a wine farm in the Tulbagh vicinity, it is very much
part of his family history, and his interest in viticulture and wine was
stimulated at an early age.
As a young child, his family moved
around a lot because of his father's work as a magistrate. Pierre attended
schools in Bonnievale, Fort Beaufort and Ficksburg.
After school he completed a BSc
Agric degree in Viticulture and Oenology as well as two honours degrees in
Agricultural Economy and Viticultural Extension. Today Pierre can also
boast a Masters in Sustainable Agriculture and an STD.
Apart from fishing, tennis and
jogging he is interested in the management of vineyard blocks for quality.
"Producers and cellars should realise that quality will be the only
yardstick for success. This will apply to red and white alike.
As far as he is concerned,
therefore, the focus falls on quality. "There will be a lot of pressure on
the mass market and the industry will have to adjust and concentrate on
quality as well as a market related cultivar composition typical of a
region."
