PLANNING

  • Do a thorough evaluation of each block's profitability and re-evaluate your long term planning.
  • Obtain establishment advice in collaboration with soil scientist, viticulturist and winemaker.
  • Confirm vine order for 2005 and order vines for 2006 from your nursery.
IN THE VINEYARD

Cultivation

  • Weed control of perennial weeds with spot spraying.
  • Prepare a seed bed for cover crop.
  • Sow cover crop and control perennial weeds in particular.
Post-harvest fertilisation
  • Apply N-fertilisation according to vigour and the other elements based on soil analyses.
Post-harvest irrigation
  • Monitor soil moisture conditions and irrigate where necessary.
Disease and pest control
  • Post-harvest spraying programme is essential for the retention of leaves where oidium and downy mildew infections occur.
  • Good time for nematode control.
  • Mark vines that are infested with mealybug for control in winter and apply control measures.
Uprooting of vines
  • Remove old vine roots as far as possible.
