Vinitech 2006 closes on a resolutely upbeat note!
"Vinitech fulfilled its role as a forum for the entire industry and a catalyst for business, stimulating exhibitors and visitors alike."
"It was a platform for far-reaching political analysis and for dialogue between trade associations and professions on the issues and interests concerning every stage of the wine process. Vinitech remains the leading B2B event for the wine industry," stated Marc Lecoq, exhibition president.
Overall atmosphere: "Growing optimism"
Officially opened by Dominique Bussereau, French Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries in the presence of a raft of French and European politicians and industry figures who control and defend the interests of the wine industry, Vinitech confirmed its position as the key industry event. Global issues such as the Wine Common Market Organisation and problems "on the ground" were tackled and discussed by all those involved. These fruitful exchanges should certainly result in firm decisions.
Outcome: "Our offer was appealing and inspiring"
Visitor figures show that Vinitech met its targets with 38 362 visitors combing the aisles. There was a slight drop in the number of French visitors (bearing in mind that the show took place over three days instead of four as in the past), but there was a strong European presence led by Spain, followed by Italy, Portugal and Germany. Another very positive factor stressed by the exhibitors was the increased number of professionals from Central and Eastern Europe - Croatia, Russia, Romania and Turkey (with exhibitors who had Russian interpreters on their stands). These visitor profiles account for the quality of the leads and the high volume of transactions that took place at the exhibition.
Results by activity sector:
- "Winegrowing and the Land": The tractor manufacturers, vineyard development specialists and nurserymen reported excellent results as their offer was perfectly in tune with visitors' needs, especially those from emerging economies. Meanwhile exhibitors specialising in crop protection were aware of strong environmental pressure on their sector.
- "Know-how and Wines": The vat and winemaking offer met visitor demand thanks to a very high level of competitiveness and innovation in the products presented (most of the Innovation Awards went to this sector). Handling equipment and wooden casks (barrels, wood chips) have benefited commercially from the new EU regulations. It was also a profitable session for the bottling and packaging sector.
- "Market Trends": This new area aroused the curiosity and interest of visitors on the lookout for solutions to help them promote their wines.
The Ideas Forum: "Bursting with inspiration"
A major new feature, the Ideas Forum was a tremendous hit with visitors seeking to share ideas and experiences through workshops and talks, attracting 4 000 attendees. It was the services aspect that had the greatest impact (the market, marketing, promotion, the CMO reform). A huge success too for "Mondiaviti", the International Forum for the Vine Growing and Wine Production Sector, which, once again, met the needs of wine growers and producers with a series of talks that were both technically and commercially oriented.
